Baron softballers shut out Cumberland
Katlyn Shanklin pitched a one-hit shutout and got plenty of run support as the Bluestone softball team shut out visiting Cumberland 6-0 on Thursday.
Shanklin, a junior, struck out 10 while allowing one hit and two walks through seven innings of work.
Shanklin also helped herself at the plate, reaching with a single in the second inning and scoring on a Lilly Loftis RBI single to give Bluestone a 1-0 lead.
Hannah Mull singled home Molly Nunn in the third inning to extend the lead to 2-0.
The Lady Barons broke the game open with a three-run fifth inning, with Emma Newcomb and Devin Gregory hitting doubles and Mull notching a single. All three would cross the plate as the Lady Barons took a 5-0 lead.
Sydney Newcomb started the bottom of the sixth inning off with a double, moved to third on a Lydia Williamson sacrifice bunt and later scored.
The Lady Barons are 3-4 on the season and are back in action April 23 hosting Prince Edward.
