Bluestone students encouraged to stay safe on prom night

With prom upcoming on Saturday, Bluestone High School held its annual Prom Promise program on Thursday to make students aware of the dangers of being on the road on prom night, especially in regards to impaired and distracted driving.
The Bluestone Speech and Drama class, with help from community organizations and emergency responders, staged an outdoor skit showing a fatal crash scene, complete with a medical helicopter arriving to airlift the injured for medical care and the driver being arrested for driving while impaired.
The program then moved indoors, where Virginia State Police 1st Sgt. Sidney Leslie, Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Chris Whittemore and Boydton Life Station volunteer Connie Moore addressed the students to emphasize staying safe on prom night.
Participating in the program were Chase City Volunteer Fire Department, Boydton Life Station, Virginia State Police and Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.
