Lady Barons lose late lead in home loss

Bluestone’s softball team lost the lead late and fell 4-3 to visiting Prince Edward on Tuesday.
Prince Edward took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning and threatened to add to its lead in the third, but the Lady Barons held their own on defense with pitcher Katlyn Shanklin striking out two to end the threat.
Bluestone tied the game in the bottom of the third inning when Emma Newcomb led off with a double and later scored.
The Lady Barons then got hot with their bats in the fifth inning, as Emma Newcomb started a rally with a single, followed by a Hannah Mull single. Both would cross the plate to give Bluestone a 3-1 lead.
The top of Prince Edward’s lineup would answer in the sixth inning with back-to-back-to-back doubles, all scoring to give the visitors a 4-3 lead.
Sydney Newcomb tried to start a rally in the sixth, leading off the inning with a single. Chasitee Baskerville had a sacrifice bunt to move her over, however, Sydney Newcomb was left stranded.
Emma Newcomb then started off the seventh inning with a triple, but the Lady Barons were unable to push the tying run across the plate.
Bluestone fell to 3-5 on the season with the loss.
The Lady Barons are back in action Thursday hosting Amelia at 5 p.m.
